image It’s that time again, (summertime), when I start looking around for some cool shades. Usually, I search out the biggest ones I can find – you know the ones – those that make me look like a movie star. But I think I’ve come to the point in my life where I may have outgrown that kind of thing. One reason is I’m in serious need of my prescription eyeglasses to be able to read road signs when I’m driving – I’m terribly near-sighted – so I think it’s time I found some cool prescription sunglasses for this season.

What kind of sunglasses do you usually wear? Have you already bought a pair this year? Do you buy the designer shades or the cheapest ones you can find? I’m curious! Please leave your answers below in the comment section.

imageThis freebie is very cool and I just wanted to pass it on to you guys. I ordered mine this morning (pictured at left) and it was entirely free, (no shipping charges or anything)!

My mousepad will have a picture of my long-lost kitty, Lily on it. *sigh*

All you have to do is watch a very short video about Fuji Film and Rite Aid will send you a free photo mousepad worth $12.99! I think the video lasts about a minute and a half, so it’s not going to take up too much of your time. Then, order your mousepad online and they will ship it to your local Rite Aid store and email you letting you know it’s ready to be picked up.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Click this link and watch the short Fuji Film video
  2. Print your coupon
  3. Register and/or log in to your Rite Aid account
  4. Upload the photo you want on your mousepad and select it
  5. Click on “My Photos My Way” in the right sidebar
  6. Select “Photo Gifts” in the right sidebar
  7. Click on “Photo Gifts” and then “Gifts for Office”
  8. Enter the promotion code that’s on your coupon
  9. Check out
  10. Pick up your mousepad at your local Rite Aid when they email you

Everyone likes to save money, and if I can, I like to pass along ways of doing so to my readers. When making purchases online, a very cool way you can save money is to enter coupon codes at check out. You can easily find them for hundreds of online stores. And it’s easy to do.

First, you will want to find a place that will do most of your work for you such as Savings.com. Let’s say there’s an awesome video game you’d like to buy at GameStop. Go to the Savings.com home page and search for “GameStop coupon codes.”

image

You will be brought to a page that lists all the GameStop coupon codes that are available. Find the one that suits your needs and click the “Get Code” button.

image

A pop-up window will then appear with all of the information about the code, including the expiration. Simply copy the code to your clipboard and then paste it into the appropriate box at the check out screen at GameStop.

image

Of course, you can do your own searches for coupon codes if you like, but that could take a lot of time that you can’t afford, and you may have to try dozens of codes before you find one that actually works. Believe me, I’ve been there. At Savings.com, they’ve already done that work for you. They have folks that continuously scour the internet for fresh codes. The community rates the codes, so you never have to go through the time-consuming process of trying several different codes. If the code is no good, the community will let you know and you can move on.

Not everyone is aware of coupon codes, that is why I feel it’s important to let you guys know about them. Why pay more when you don’t have to, right?

life-insurance As I get older, I find that I am thinking more and more about life insurance, especially since Charlie and I got married. If one of us dies, (and unfortunately, that is inevitable), I wonder how the other will pay for the funeral costs, let alone the other bills that we are now paying monthly. It absolutely takes both of our incomes to pay the bills we have right now. If one of them was no longer coming in, how in the world will those bills get paid without life insurance?

These days, it costs an arm and a leg to pay for a funeral. When my grandmother passed away in 2008, it cost over $6000 for the funeral and burial. My poor uncle was left with the bill, as he was the only one in the family with good enough credit to get a loan for what her small funeral insurance policy didn’t cover. I can tell you right now, neither Charlie nor I have the resources to come up with that kind of money, so we have to seriously start thinking about getting some life insurance.

Fortunately, finding the right policy at the right price isn’t as difficult as it was before the internet came along. Today, one can compare life insurance quotes online with just a few clicks of a mouse.

If you don’t have a life insurance policy, I strongly urge you to consider getting one, because you never know what could happen tomorrow, or even tonight. Just having the peace of mind it brings will be worth the price of the policy.

Owning a laptop computer is fast becoming more of a need in today’s world than simply a preference. More and more people are making the switch from the traditional desktop computer to a laptop because they need to have access to documents and files while they’re out and about. Being able to take your computer with you wherever you go makes it so much easier to share important documents with colleagues or treasured photos and videos with your family and friends. But no laptop is complete without some useful laptop accessories to compliment your on-the-go computing experience. Below are some items that I have found to be handy to have around.

Headset

image A headset is a device with both earphones and a microphone. Imagine you’re having lunch at your favorite restaurant or diner, but the music there doesn’t suit your personal taste. You can plug in your headset and listen to your own music that you have stored on your laptop. A headset is also useful in making calls while you’re away from home using a VoIP service such as Skype. If you’re an online gamer, a headset is a “must have item” for communicating with other players.

Port Replicator

image A port replicator is a device that allows you to connect your laptop to a number of non-portable devices such as printers, scanners and monitors. This is a nice item to have because instead of having to connect all these devices to your laptop, you just connect them all to the port replicator, and then when you get ready to use one of them, you simply connect your laptop to the port replicator – saves you a lot of time and trouble.

Portable Mouse

image If you are like me, and just cannot get used to your laptop’s touchpad, a portable mouse comes in very handy. I chose to go with an optical mouse rather than the trackball kind because it’s more lightweight, navigates better, and you never have to open it up to clean it. You will need to make sure the mouse you choose has a USB cord. This makes it faster and easier to plug it in whenever you need it.

Laptop Sleeve

image Along with my laptop, I carry a variety of items, around in a backpack – stuff like pens, keys and other things that can scratch my computer. To avoid this, I use a laptop sleeve. Laptop sleeves are smaller and less bulky than regular carrying cases, therefore you can use them and still fit your laptop in a backpack or other bag along with all your other things.

Extra Battery

image While some laptop batteries last for several hours, many of them do not. For instance, mine only lasts about 3 or 4 hours. If you plan to use your laptop away from home and electrical outlets for an extended amount of time, having an extra battery is the only way to do it. Let’s say you’re sitting on the beach, working on an important project. Chances are, you won’t want to leave the beach and interrupt your work just to charge your battery when the juice runs out. Laptop batteries are not cheap, but having an extra is well worth the price in the long run.

These are items that I personally feel the need to have around. Are there others that you find useful that aren’t listed here? If so, please feel free to list them in the comment section below.
