If you are a freelance web designer of if you are running a best web design firm of your own, here are some tips for you to design a business website wisely. If you are working of a business website these days, keep following things in mind.

Company’s Business Goal Should Be Visible On Your Website

Keep the goals of the company in your mind and then design a website for your company. The common goals of all companies are to generate lead and increase the revenues. Every single entity on your website should play its role in the attainment of these goals. Emphasize on

  • The overall presentation of the website

  • The placement of information

  • The content of website

  • The graphics and pictorial presentation

Keep The Users In Mind

You have to create a website according to the users. Keep yourself in the place of a user and then see how you should be designing it. If the site is confusing him or takes time in loading, users are more likely to skip the site. This will increase the bounce rate only.

Professionalism

The designing of the website should not be in contradiction to the overall image of the company. For example, if the website is for an event management company and you use only dull colors like black and brown, all your efforts would fail. Use beautiful colors, indicating life, fun, decency and use more and more slogans, tagline and call to action statements.

Increase the conversion rate

Make sure that your site increases the rate of conversion, because it is the purpose for which you are making the site. You can enhance the conversion rate by adding the conversion buttons on your website. Add the buttons of “click here” “get a quote”, “get started now”, “what are you waiting for”, and other call to action statements through one click. Do not make the process too complex otherwise, users will get irritated, and they will leave the page.

Keep these basic tips in mind and make a simple yet unique website. Keep in mind uniqueness is simplicity!

The content that you add to your web pages is always the most important factor in SEO and attracting visitors, but you should not neglect adding images also. There is always a place for good images as part of your blog posts, and it can actually help with SEO, when used correctly.

It is actually good practice to add one or two images to your blog posts, however they need to be put in the right places, aligned correctly and have the correct tags added to them. All of this can be done from your blogging software, such as WordPress or blogger.

There are many reasons to use blog images, with the most obvious being the sheer impression that it gives to users when they load your website. A good image will help to improve an ordinary blog post, and attract more attention to your blog copy. This can then help them to stay longer on your website and read more of your copy.

Besides this, images can help to break up larger chunks of text on your blog. This is a great use of images as it helps people to browse and scan more of the text, before going back to read in more detail. Big blocks of text don’t encourage people to read your blog posts, as it seems to imposing and too much effort.

Images can also be used to help explain certain points that are being made in your blog post. As you know, images and illustrations can explain things that text simply can’t. People enjoy visualizing things so having a well fitting image with your blog post is very useful.

There are also SEO reasons for using images. Always remember to use the alt tags when you are including images in your blog. It is important to name the images with your keywords as this will improve your on page SEO score. It is important to add the tags so you can increase your optimization. This can all be done from the backend of your blog software.

With Google’s new algorism changes, the images are becoming more important they are now listed in the main search results. This means that it is more important than ever to have images in your blog posts and ensure that the alt tags are used to the maximum.

Images can be found from many sources online, and they are very cheap to purchase. Ensure that you use images in all your blog posts from now on.

Buying technology always seems like a huge challenge to people because there is always something newer, better, faster that’s “just around the corner.” Given this situation, one could be forgiven for feeling as if a piece of technology is obsolete from the very moment that you make your purchase. The thing is, if you follow this line of reasoning, you’ll never buy any piece of technology because you’ll always be living in fear of being obsolete. Therefore, a new paradigm is needed for considering when to buy a piece of technology.

Can What You Have Do the Job?

The first question to ask yourself before you buy a piece of technology is whether or not what you currently own will do the job. The reality is that technology is constantly changing and as such, there will always be new things that new gizmos are able to do. However, by focusing on what you need to do rather than focusing on what the latest piece of technology is all about, you can avoid all the fuss. After all, if all you need is the ability to type up the occasional letter without needing Internet access, even an old computer running MS-DOS would do the job. On the other hand, if you need to be able to download, display and manipulate high definition video, you’ll need one of the more advanced computers on the market.

Consider Buying Last Year’s Technology

Unless it won’t do the job at all, last year’s technology is generally a relative bargain. For example, these days the latest and greatest in the way of computers use the Intel or AMD quad core processors. However, if you are able to make do with a dual core processor instead, you can save a significant amount of money on your technology needs.

Buy Technology When You Need It

Another thing to consider when buying technology is that you should buy it when you need it. Sure, you could wait for a sale on a piece of technology, however, unless you happen to know that a sale is going to be coming out soon (for example, it’s a few days before Black Friday and the sales have been published), it’s not worth waiting for a sale. That’s because inevitably, someone somewhere has a sale on the item you want to purchase. Just search through deal sites like SlickDeals.Net and FatWallet.Com to find the deals and you’ll see that whatever you need is inevitably on sale somewhere, or something close to it is on sale somewhere.

Think Two to Three Years Ahead

Finally, when choosing when and which piece of technology to buy, it’s important to think about the future. For example, if you’re looking into buying yourself a cellular phone, you have to remember that you’re likely to be holding onto that piece of technology for at least two years. Now the reality is that most smart phones being built today will do just fine for the next two years. However, if you buy yourself a cheaper phone, you need to consider whether that particular piece of technology is one that you’re still going to be comfortable with two or three years from now.

In the case of computers, it’s also important to think ahead. The rule of thumb regarding computers is that you should expect to use it for at least three years. However, if you’re not bedazzled by the latest and greatest, it’s possible to hold onto this and other pieces of technology for much longer, for as long as they do what you want them to do and as long as they continue functioning properly.

Groupon has been growing and expanding rapidly in a world hit hard by recessions and economic woes.  The deal-of-the-day coupon website offers its users local deals and keeps them up to date with any discounts or specials that are going on in their geographical location.  But it’s how the company uses its user’s information that has some privacy groups up in arms.  With their growing technology to match a growing user base, Groupon is starting to evolve in how it uses the information it has about us to show us those deals.

For instance, a representative from Groupon has talked about a possible future use of Groupon where you may be walking by a restaurant, and the website automatically sends you a message to let you know about a deal going on at that very restaurant.   While this sounds like it would be a very cool use of technology and also very convenient, it’s also a little creepy.  We all love to use GPS (Global Positioning Software) to tell us where we are or where we need to go, but when companies with deep pockets start tracking our whereabouts so they can tell us where to eat, shop, and play, it becomes a bit of a privacy issue.

But the most serious part of Groupon’s privacy issues is how the company interacts and exchanges information with its partners.  After all, these are private companies that all want your business, and any pieces of information that you have shared privately with Groupon have the possibility of ending up in another company’s hands.  It was just at the beginning of 2011 that there was a breach of this kind of information from a third party marketer.

Groupon does claim that it is growing so fast that problems like these are bound to come up but that it is constantly making the privacy of its users a main priority.  But the company has recently made changes to its privacy policy that allow them to have even more liberty with the distribution of your information.  Whether you knew it or not, this is already being done and partners like Expedia have taken the liberty to share your private data with other affiliates and websites.  You see, once Groupon has your information you may think it’s perfectly secure.  But if they have decided to partner up with other websites and companies this information can no longer be locked down to just one company, and it’s almost impossible to tell where it may end up.

Location tracking has become the biggest eye-opener in realms of privacy that has also opened this can of worms we call privacy.  And with ever-changing technology, getting a solid grasp on your privacy is becoming more difficult.  Just be aware that anytime you reveal personal information online, it has the potential to end up somewhere else, and unless you have the proper protection in place, it could lead to a more serious breach of your private information.

Freedom! No parents, no curfew, and no being told what to do! That is what most students think when they go off to college. They don’t want to hassle with parents anymore and just need a break from them. Parents feel just the opposite, they no longer have their children under their wing when they run away to college. They feel the need to constantly check in with kids, see how they are doing, give advice, and see if there is anything they can do to help. Most often than not, College students will reply, “I’m fine mom!” or “Too busy to talk right now.” What students may not understand is parents are going through a hard time by letting their children go. It will help makes things easier for them by checking in every once in awhile.

Parents must understand that calling college students every day can be a nuisance to them. They have just found their freedom, and want to test it out, make a few mistakes. On the other hand, students also need to understand that parents are going crazy whenever they don’t hear from their child for more than a week. Calling them for just for a few minutes can help put them at ease.

Young adults are constantly text messaging; it is the new form of communicating with each other. While most parents are not aware of how to use this new technology, they are always able to read it. A simple text message saying, “He finally asked me out!” or “class is so boring, I’ve fallen asleep like ten times- with my eyes open!” could go a long way in making them feel comforted. A response from them might take awhile if they are still figuring texting out, or the might just call you. Either way, a simple text message lets them know you care and are thinking about them.

E-mail is another excellent tool in keeping in touch with your folks. Hearing your parent’s voice is not an option with this unique tool, but it can be a bonus for those who tire of their parent’s voices. If you are up late and are uncertain if your folks are up, e-mail can be used to let them know how you are doing. Or even if you are too busy to give them a simple phone call, an e-mail will quench their thirst to hear from you.

Something non-electronic and cute that could be sent to your family is a good old-fashioned letter. Either spend a few bucks at the store for a card or make one yourself. Parents will appreciate either one, but a handmade card can go a long way.

Keeping in touch with anyone when you have a busy schedule can be difficult, especially if you don’t have a good relationship with them. But your parents have nothing but love towards you. They want to hear about how you are doing, give you advice, cry with you, and laugh with you. They have spent the past eighteen or so years raising you, it is only natural that they would want to keep it that way. Try to be patient with them, and your relationship with them will grow.

Business owners have their hands full keeping their business afloat while tossing and turning wildly the the sea of sales, technology and the dreaded paperwork. Have you thoroughly thought of payment methods, costs and security issues that may be involved now and in the future?

“The Usual Methods”

Whether based in the terrestrial world or  the ether world, if your business doesn’t get paid properly, quickly and cost-effectively, you’ll forever have to chase down delinquent clients or customers and missing payments. Merchant accounts and gateways allow for quick payment via credit cards, whether you’re on the Internet or in the real world. However, considering the percentages and per-transaction fees charged by the merchant account provider, wait for this option until you have at least $1000 per month in receivables every month. Not all merchant account providers like recurring charges, so if your business is ready for that option, ask the representative lots of questions.

PayPal is a viable Internet payment method. Quick, easy and fully itemized, you can transfer any part of a PayPal balance equal to or greater than $10.00 in to a confirmed bank account, and it will be ready cash usually within two to three business days. You avoid the credit card hold and the risk of taking bad checks inadvertently. The drawback to PayPal payments is the customer dispute aspect: PayPal can and often will freeze your entire account balance, not just the disputed amount, until they get around to resolving it.

Charge cards are convenient, but you’re charged for both payments and reversals. If enough customers hypothetically dispute charges or return items, your transaction fees from the credit card companies—in addition to merchant account fees from the bank.

However, technology has provided a method of payment that is often even more convenient than credit or debit cards for mobile device users: Mobile payments are here, and they’re probably here to stay.

Mobile Payment: The Future is Here

Quite simply, a mobile payment is payment for goods or services via a mobile phone. A user can pay a vendor or send money to friends or family via mobile payment technology called Near Field Communications or NCF.

NCF technology is expected to become standard in mobile phones in the near future. NCF technology allows instant electronic payment transfer, and users can send or receive payments through apps and by simply touching phones together, which is both a convenience and a potential danger area, stemming from transmission and proximity security.

Starbucks, for example, has a payment app that accepts store payments via a user’s phone. The app allows not only quick payment but allows the user to track their reward points in addition to other benefits. The Starbucks system uses bar codes that are displayed on the iPhone, Android or Blackberry screen and scanned at check-out. The vendor bar code option is probably far safer than phone-to-phone transfers. All the user has to do is pick the correct bar code from your business app.

PayPal Mobile is launching its NFC app this summer for peer-to-peer use. In its initial stages, the app is or will be available only for Android users with the Samsung for easy payment transfer for PayPal users. Peer-to-peer use, however, means that you business will have to wait for the business version.

Google Wallet is the other NCF mobile payment solution that will launch this summer, teamed with Subway, American Eagle Outfitters and Bloomingdale’s. Google Wallet acts an electronic wallet by storing credit card information, reward “cards” with points and bonuses, coupons and gift cards. Payment is made via either tapping the phones together and waiting for the buzzer or waving the phone in front of a retailer’s MasterCard PayPass terminal. Right now, like PayPal Mobile, Google Wallet works only on the Samsung Nexus S phone for the time being, but Google plans on producing NFC stickers that can attach to other mobile phones, which is another good point-bad point issue.

Be prepared: Learn all you can about Mobile Payment and investigate your own app for easy inventory or service recognition and payment.

Electronics have become necessary in the lives of many people, and going without them for any substantial length of time seems insane. But for arguments sake, let’s say you are willing to try to go without your electric friends while vacationing. Maybe you overheard a colleague at work boast about their own digital sabbatical, and curious to see if it would live up to your expectations. How would you even begin?

Decide On How Cut Off From The Digital World You’re Willing To Be
No email? Internet? Non-emergency related phone calls? What about iPods and television? Deciding, early on, how deep in your seclusion you’re willing to go will help you relax later. Don’t give yourself excuses, the office probably won’t go up in flames while you’re away. So once you make a decision on what is and isn’t allowed, stick to it.

Get the Family Involved
If you’re taking a family vacation, you could easily be tempted by your teenager’s phone or your spouses internet connection. Having everyone involved in the sabbatical would allow more family time and better self control. But be forewarned, many will fight against said sabbatical. Be firm in your resolution and understand they won’t hold a grudge against you forever.

Create a List of Fun Distractions
When you find yourself bored or itching to make a phone call, stop. Have a list of little things you can do that will occupy your mind until the urge goes away. Your list could include anything you find relaxing or fun. A few examples are:

  • Write a letter or postcard
  • Go for a swim
  • Meditate
  • Exercise
  • Read a book
  • Go for a walk
  • Take a relaxing bath

Research Your Destination
Find out about local sightseeing spots, the best beaches to visit, or the highest rated restaurants. See if there are any concerts, or shows you’d like to see during your visit. Figuring this out before hand keeps you from freaking out and running to the nearest wireless hotspot. Also it keeps your schedule filled so you’re less likely to be bored, and therefore, less likely to be tempted by devices.

Inform the Masses
Telling co-workers, and doting family members, that they should only call you in an emergency will take care of two things. One, everyone will know that you are fine and are not in any danger where you can’t answer your calls or emails. Two, it gives you peace of mind by not having to listen to your phone ring incessantly.

Unplugging can be a major challenge, but it comes with great rewards! Quality time with loved ones and a renewed connection to your non-digital surroundings will refresh your mind, body, and spirit.

Fiber Optic technology has changed the communication industry. It is not only used in telephone networks or the Internet but also for cable TV system. They are made up of strands of optical glass which is thin as a human hair that carries digital information over long distances. Since the cable is thinner and lighter than other mediums, it is easy to install. Internet bandwidth supply is also greater due to this technology. But do you find yourself wishing it was better? Do you wish you could download movies in seconds through the internet? Well hopefully those days are not too far in the future because fiber technology just reached a new milestone. Two different research groups in different parts of the world managed to send over hundred terabits of information per second through only one optical fiber. That is enough speed to download around 90 days of high-definition video of all your favorite movies in a second. Or equivalent to more than two hundred fifty Blu ray disks (double sided).

The best part is that both the research teams used different ways to increase the data rate that can be sent through the fiber optic cable. One improved the speed by changing the light itself while the other added new channels within the fiber.

The first one that altered the light was business IT solution firm NEC. The company was able to send data around 102 terabits per second using optic fiber that travelled around 160 kilometers. This was done by compressing light pulses from more than 350 different lasers into the pulse which was received by the receiver. Every laser sent had its own stages and amplitudes made up of light waves to code every packet of information. Each laser also has its own thin sliver of the infrared range. So with more than 350 different lasers packed in the same pulse, it can encode the packet of information in the beginning when it is sent as well the receiving end.

While the second approach of carving a new channel within the fiber was used by a team in Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology. This approach was even better as it managed to send more than 105 terabits per second. How did that happen? A normal fiber cable contains a single lighting-guiding core. So the researchers in Japan decided to use seven cores instead of one. This logical thinking paid off! Each core is able to send around 16 terabits per second. Therefore all the cores combined can send data at more than 105 terabits per second rate.

Unfortunately, both the ways are difficult to integrate in the current infrastructure. With increasing traffic on the internet and TV-on-the-web, we might see these data rates but not very near in the future. However you never know!

According to Jim Nakajima, senior vice president at NEC, the company already has a history in making advance developments in the optical networking technology and it will continue being committed in developing ultra and high speed technology.

So you never know when a breakthrough in the infrastructure would be just around the corner. For now though, these technologies will most probably be used in high volume connections where its capacity is needed such as the server farms at Amazon or data centers like Google.

Col. Steve Austin introduced the world to the possibilities of bionics in 1973 with The Six Million Dollar Man. Not only was he able to lift giant boulders, run faster than a car and see with telephoto abilities, but the accompanying sound effects made nearly everybody want in on bionic body parts.

While we still can’t attain Col. Steve’s powers, no matter the price, modern medical advances have made bionics and other technologies capable of doing some amazing things to the human machine.

Bionic Eye

Scientists have been trying to provide sight to the blind through a variety of different methods. The most promising methods center on sub-retinal implants. In 2009, U.S.-based Second Sight was able to restore limited vision to patients by linking a camera and video processer mounted on sunglasses to electrodes on the retina.

The electrodes pass along that visual information to the brain via the optic nerve. In 2011, researchers at the University Eye Hospital in Tuebingen, Germany, revealed that they were able to implant an artificial retina in three patients using 1,500 light-sensitive microphotodiodes. Both methods have produced encouraging results and provided patients with the ability to see light and even discern identifiable objects.

Bionic Ear

Bionic Ear

Using similar electronic stimulation of the nerves as the bionic eye, cochlear implants utilize an external microphone and transmitter to deliver processed sound to a receiver that is implanted within the ear. The receiver utilizes an array of electrodes to stimulate the auditory nerve system into transmitting the sounds to the brain. Results have allowed an increasing amount of deaf patients to understand speech and recognize a variety of other sounds. As of 2011, more than 200,000 patients have received cochlear implants, often referred to as the bionic ear.

Bionic Legs – Berkeley Bionics

A San Francisco area company has experienced recent success with their eLEGS exoskeleton device. The device utilizes mechanical legs and a battery backpack to allow people with nervous system injuries and paralysis in the lower extremities to walk on their own. Also, doctors in California have successfully utilized implanted electrodes on the spinal system to stimulate voluntary movement of paralysis victims. While these developments are still in their early stages, they again provide increasing hope for people through the integration of mechanics and nanotechnology into the human biological machine.

Intelligent Prosthetics

[Watch Video]

For amputees who have lost limbs but not suffered spinal damage, intelligent prosthetics are coming to the rescue. These devices utilize computer-controlled hydraulics that help the prosthetic limb adjust to terrain, speed and other directional placement automatically. Microprocessors analyze each step at a rate of approximately 50 times per second to provide patients with a natural gait.

Implantable Sensors/Diagnostics

Implantable Sensor

Future advancements in bionics and nanotechnology could include the ability to monitor the human machine and diagnose problems via implantable sensors. Imagine having the ‘Check Engine’ light turn on if you start to run a fever. Diabetics will be able to monitor their blood sugar level automatically as well as communicate with medical device ports to regulate medicine dosage. Going in for a tune-up might consist of doctors plugging you in to read the diagnostic codes similar to the corner mechanic’s garage. Whether this translates to getting more mileage from the vehicle will be interesting to ‘monitor’ as the technology progresses.
