Since I started working online a few months ago, my internet connection and how reliable my laptop is have become extremely important things to me. I have so many little jobs that I do online like filling out surveys, applying to participate in focus groups, and most recently writing articles for various websites. So my connection must be perfect and my clearwireless internet helps me feels confident that I’m connected and able to complete my work.

The surveys are sometimes really boring but often kind of fun and the money or points that I earn are a definite bonus. It’s nice to know there are a few sites that I have accounts on where I will eventually be able to withdraw some cash from and that I did not have to do much to be paid the money. Also, there are focus groups which are usually fairly enjoyable and pay a higher amount of money. I can sometimes make triple per hour than I did working in an office a few years ago.

My current concentration is on writing articles. I’ve always loved writing short stories and poetry and now having found the websites that pay for writing content, I am enjoying it even more. The internet has been so helpful in adding to my income and giving me things I like to do.

If you’re looking for ways to earn some extra money online, writing is one of the most lucrative methods. Listed below are 5 sites that will pay you to write unique articles either through revenue sharing, per article, or a monthly salary for a commitment to write a certain amount of posts per week/month.

You will be a content provider and the content you provide MUST be unique in every way. Your articles cannot be copied and pasted from any other site or source, including your own blog, so keep that in mind. These sites have zero tolerance for plagiarism and will suspend your membership and payment if you submit someone else’s work as your own.

It’s important that you read through each site’s guidelines and know exactly what they expect from you. This will save you from having to spend precious time and energy on rewrites. You may also want to familiarize yourself with SEO (Search Engine Optimization) techniques to ensure your articles show up high in search engine results.

1. Demand Studios

image As a writer at Demand Studios, you get paid per article and the rates will vary depending on the format or website where it will eventually be published. They will provide you with hundreds of titles that you can search through by category, target website, or price. Find one you feel confident in writing, claim it as your own, and you will then have seven days to write the article and submit it for publish and payment. Once you’ve submitted it, it will be looked over by professional copy editors and if all is well, they will approve it, send it to be published at the target website, and promptly process your payment.

There may be times when your article is sent back to you for a rewrite if the copy editor feels there are changes that need to be made. Don’t get frustrated. Simply make the changes and resubmit. This will actually serve to help you to learn their guidelines and become a better writer.

Demand Studios pays twice per week via Paypal. This one is great for those who also work outside the home, because it allows you to write according to your own schedule.

2. Break Studios

Break Studios is very similar to Demand Studios in that they pay per article and provide you with titles to claim and write about. However, the topics and target sites are a bit different and look to be more upbeat and fun, (Break.com, MadeMan, Holy Taco, Cage Potato, Screen Junkies, and Chickipedia).

Once you’ve submitted your article, it will be looked over by an editor who may suggest changes. Once it has passed approval, your article will be published at the target site. Break Studios pays once a month via Paypal.

3. Bright Hub

image

Unlike Demand Studios and Break Studios,  the content you publish at Bright Hub shows up on the Bright Hub site instead of a target website. There are two ways to make money at Bright Hub: per article pricing and revenue sharing. You have the choice of three channels you can join as a content provider: The Editorial Community Channel, The Self-Publishing Community Channel, and the Hubfolio Channel.

If you decide to write for the Editorial Community Channel, you will be provided with titles that you can claim. Each title pays $10 plus revenue share. So even after you are paid the $10, your article can continue to make you money, depending on its performance. Of course, the Editorial Community Channel has very strict guidelines that you must adhere to, and you will work together with the Managing and Contributing Editors. You will also be responsible for updating and maintaining your articles over time.

If you’d prefer a little more freedom, you can go with the Self-Publishing Community Channel and write articles based on your own planning and analysis. You will still be expected to adhere to the guidelines and maintenance plan, but you won’t be working with editors. You will be on your own. However, you will not be offered assignments that pay per article; your compensation will be through revenue sharing only. Those writers that have been accepted into the Editorial Community Channel are also free to self-publish if they like.

If you are new to content publishing and simply want to try and hone your skills as a professional online writer, you may want to join the Hubfolio Channel. You will have a wealth of content creation resources at your disposal. The goal is to help you earn more money online with your writing. You will still have to adhere to Bright Hub’s guidelines, and you will be compensated for your content through revenue sharing.

Bright Hub pays once per month through Paypal or by check. If you live outside the United States, you will be paid via verified Paypal only.  If you have earned above the minimum of $20, your payment will be sent. If not, the amount carries over until such time the minimum has been met.

4. Associated Content

image

Associated Content is a little different than the sites mentioned above in that you can pretty much write about whatever topic you desire, unless you apply to be a featured contributor. Featured contributors are assigned to a specific category or subcategory. The benefits of becoming a featured contributor include paid assignments, greater access to Associated Content personnel and prominent featuring around the site.

There are two ways to make money at Associated Content – performance payments, which are based on the amount of traffic to your content, which is currently $1.50 per thousand views; and upfront payments, which range from $2 to $15, which is in addition to performance payments. Upfront payments are only offered for certain content. If you submit an article for an upfront payment and it is rejected, you can still earn money in performance payments. Occasionally there will be assignments available to you, and some will have an upfront payment, but most will be for performance payments only.

You must live in the United States and be at least 18 years of age to be paid by Associated Content. Upfront payments are paid daily upon article approval; however, performance payments are paid at the beginning of each month providing you have accumulated at least $1.50. Associated Content pays their writers exclusively through verified Paypal accounts.

5. Suite101

image

As a content provider for Suite101, you will receive compensation via revenue sharing. However, you won’t be paid according to page views. Instead, you will receive a share of the revenue that is generated from Google ads that are placed on your article pages. This may seem like a waste of time to many online writers, as trying to make a decent amount of money with Google ads can be quite frustrating.

However, according to an article at Bnet, there are some writers who earn a very nice income writing for Suite101. If you understand how SEO (Search Engine Optimization) works, and you strategically place the right keywords in your articles, you can do well at Suite101. And if you are consistent in your publishing, you can build a nice income over time. Suite101 provides you with all the tools and information necessary for you to write quality articles that will generate a decent ad revenue.

After you have established yourself as a contributing writer at Suite101, (published at least 10 engaging articles), and you meet all the criteria, you can apply to become a feature writer. As a feature writer, you will receive a 20% bonus on each day’s earnings, and once you have published 100 articles, you will receive an additional 10%. So, you can see how, over time, you can earn a pretty respectable income there.

Suite101 pays their writers once per month via a verified Paypal account.

tmp6CECWriting online is a great way to pick up some extra cash. It can also be extremely fun, especially when you can write about things you know and love – or hate, whatever the case may be.

ReviewStream.com is a nice little website where you can write short reviews on anything and get paid for it. When I say anything, that’s exactly what I mean. They accept reviews on any product or service you’ve used, any place you’ve visited, your favorite or least favorite websites or apps – simply put, the sky is the limit.

Currently, the regular rate for reviews is $2.50. If your review doesn’t fit their regular rate criteria, you can still submit it for the “bulk rate,” which is 1/5 of what the regular rate is. The rates are subject to change at anytime, but you can always check the ReviewStream homepage to see what the current rates are. Minimum payout is $50 via Paypal. ReviewStream doesn’t have a log-in screen or membership. When submitting your reviews, you will be asked for an email address. This is the email address where you will be contacted about review acceptance or rejection and it should also be the email address that you use for your Paypal. Make sure you use the same email address for all of your reviews, because accounts cannot be merged.

What Is It?

MyLikes is an innovative advertisement platform launched on January 6, 2010 that allows Twitter users and bloggers to become influencers and endorse products and services that they like and get paid for it on a cost-per-click basis. Influencers choose Likes that are relevant to their audience and recommend them to their followers, readers, and subscribers. The more influential one is and the more relevant their Likes, the higher the cost per click.

How It Works

  • Find and choose from a list of relevant advertisers that are useful to you and your audience.
  • Create Sponsored Likes and post them to your Twitter feed or your blog.
  • The more influential you are and the more relevant your Likes are, the higher your cost per click.

MyLikes continuously measures your relevance based on the number of clicks generated relative to the size of your audience. They will then adjust your cost-per-click to reflect how relevant you are to your audience.

Ways To Post Your Likes

  • Tweet your Likes – If you like an advertiser you want to Tweet about, you simply create your Tweet and MyLikes will post it on Twitter for you. You can schedule it to be posted at any time you want.
  • Embed a MyLikes widget- Choose the size, color and font to match your website and cut and paste some code to your blog. You are allowed to pick your own settings such as the number of Likes you want to show in the widget, the maximum number of Likes, only Likes from certain topics, number of comments, etc. MyLikes will automatically pick the regular and Sponsored Likes from amongst all your likes based on these settings.
  • Post your Like as a blog post – You may also post Likes as blog posts. MyLikes currently supports Blogger and gives you code for other platforms. These posts will be clearly marked as sponsored.

How and When You Are Paid

  • Paypal
  • Fridays

In order to be paid by MyLikes you will need to specify a PayPal account. Once you’ve done that, any pending balance over $2 will be transferred to your account each Friday. (Any funds accrued on Friday will be transferred the following Friday).

MyLikes allows you to donate your earnings to charity. They currently work with ten popular charities and you can choose to donate your earnings to any one of them. The name of the charity you choose will be prominently displayed on your profile.

Jan 112010

Hey guys! Well, 2010 has finally rolled around. Can you believe it? I sure hope you all had a wonderful holiday season, and made many cool memories with your loved ones and friends. Frankly, The Browns are happy it’s over with – even though we did enjoy them, and it was nice to have some time off to relax – it’s just nice when things get back to normal.

The new year has finally arrived, but thinking back to this time last year,  it truly seems like only a few months ago. Ya know how when you’re a kid, your parents and grandparents say things that don’t make sense to you at the time, but then when you’re older it finally registers? Well, it has finally kicked in what my MawMaw was talking about when she said, “the older you get, the faster the years go by.” I swear each year seems to be getting shorter and shorter for me now. It kinda scares me, because I am now what you call “middle-aged” (ugh) and I fear the next half of my life will go by in the blink of an eye!

Anyway, nevermind that. I have other things to discuss here besides getting old. I don’t really like making New Year’s resolutions, because I never adhere to any of them anyway, so what is the point? But in 2010, I will try to set reasonable goals for myself, and hopefully, I will follow through and meet at least some of them. I won’t bore you to death by listing all of them here. I’ll just touch on the few that I want to share with you.

First, I want to get this blog rolling along, and post regularly, or at least semi-regularly. Now that I have a real job and I don’t live on the internet anymore, I need to be as productive as I can and make good use of what little time I have online. I want to connect and interact with other bloggers like I used to a few years ago. I ran across some very nice people back then. Most of them have moved on from my life, but there are still a few I keep in contact with at various social networks.

My goal is to get back to my blogging networks, (MyBlogLog, Technorati, BlogCatalog, etc.), and maybe even join a few new ones, like NetworkedBlogs at Facebook (which I joined yesterday). I intend to visit 5 to 15 blogs per day, (however many time allows), and leave a comment, but only when I have something relevant to say. This is a great way to find interesting writers. If you’ve never done this, you should try it, because you can meet some cool people this way, and you never know, you may even strike up some genuine friendships along the way. And besides that, it’s fun.

Back in 2007, I got distracted from networking with bloggers by trying different methods of making money online. Soon, my blogging friends were put on the back burner, and sadly, after a while, they became only a memory. After working my butt off for two years online, the recession hit, and I was forced to go out and get a real job – which, by the way, has turned out very well for me, so I am not complaining! Having this job has taken a world off my shoulders. It is not easy making money online. It can be very stressful and time-consuming, and I’m oh-so-happy to be doing something different. But I digress,

My point is that now, when I’m online, I don’t feel the constant need to be finding a money-making opportunity and I can actually enjoy the internet. And I can get back to blogging for fun again, and not blogging for money.  So that is what I’m going to do, because it makes me happy.

The next goal is an extremely important one. Diet. Last summer, I was informed that my cholesterol was dangerously high, so I had to make a drastic change in my diet. I thought it would be difficult for me, and I guess it was at first. But after a while, I adjusted and now I’m fine with it. Plus, I’m a few pounds lighter, so that’s nice too. My goal is to stick with this diet, and try to exercise everyday. Since the cold weather and holidays set in, I have slacked off on both diet and exercise, and I need to get more serious about it. My goal is to eat healthy, walk everyday, and try to get a gym membership soon, so I can get back in good shape.

Those are the few goals I wanted to share here. I may share more with you in a later post. But I’m sure you’re getting tired of reading, so I will end it here———->.
