Cheap Meal Ideas

Breakfast

Fruit and yogurt shake: Blend fresh fruit and plain yogurt together. This is a fast and healthy idea for those on the go.

Oatmeal with cinnamon and raisins: For a different taste eat the oatmeal raw. Adults may find this more tasty than kids

Protein and homemade breads: Eggs are a cheap source of protein that keep people filled until lunch time. Pair them with homemade banana wheat bread or wheat bread and this results in a tasty, healthy and cheap meal. All the banana bread needs are: bananas, milk, wheat flour, baking powder and eggs. This will help to eliminate discarding over ripe bananas and is healthy, because it contains no preservatives. Banana bread and eggs should also last a while.

Lunch

Whole wheat sandwiches: Opt for fresh lunch meat from the local butcher. Packaged lunch meat often have preservatives and too many added ingredients. Turkey and chicken are always great ideas for cheap lunch meats. Roasted beef may be a little too expensive to eat every day.

Snacks

Granola bars: Whether homemade or store-bought, these are great choices for healthy snacks. They contain a lot of energy and the right sugars.

Rustic elegance is one of the most popular wedding themes for autumn. Naturally every great wedding needs an equally great cake to display (and eat!) at the reception. Get inspired by these creative rustic wedding cake ideas.

Many rustic wedding cakes are on the small side. There is something about a towering five tier wedding cake that is inherently grandiose, and it does not easily fit the more laid-back feeling of rustic design. A small three tier cake could certainly work, or another option is to have several one or two layer cakes displayed as a group. That way you can have plenty of cake for everyone and an artful display, yet still maintain that simple rustic flavor.

Speaking of flavor, chocolate is an excellent choice for a rustic style wedding cake. By dragging chocolate frosting, the baker can create a bark effect, which is a terrific natural look. It would be absolutely charming to top the “tree” cake with a little nest with a pair of handcarved wooden lovebirds in it. Another idea is to create a gorgeous white birch effect with the frosting. It can be decorated with marzipan mushrooms, ferns made of sugar, or even little woodland creatures like squirrels. For a fun detail, “carve” your initials in a heart on the side of the birch bark “tree”.

An easy way to make any wedding cake feel more rustic is to frost it with buttercream applied in a rough texture. Glassy smooth fondant tends to look too perfect for a rustic celebration, which usually leans towards more rough-hewn textures and elements. A simple cake frosted in a heavy texture would look terrific when displayed on a stand covered with moss. Add some sunflowers or mums in fall colors to the top of the cake for a seasonal touch. An alternative to flowers is to decorate the tiers of the cake with sugar leaves in fall colors. Allow them to gently drift down the sides of the confection in a random pattern. Just for fun, the bride could wear some crystal leaf handmade wedding jewelry to play up the theme.

Vineyards are favorite locations for weddings with a rustic flair. They are unique in that a vineyard wedding also tends to be a bit sophisticated, with the bride wearing a chic gown and elegant handmade wedding jewelry, rather than the more casual attire that would be typical for a barn wedding. A great cake design for this type of reception is one with an olive branch design. It will give your vineyard theme a dash of Tuscan flair. Use colors like olive green, espresso, russet, and sunflower yellow for a gorgeous effect.

There are many other charming and whimsical rustic wedding cake designs. You could set your cake on a base of twigs, decorate it with marzipan apples, or wrap raffia around the base of each tier. Whichever cake design you choose, it is sure to enhance your beautiful fall wedding.

Farmers who raise organic crops and livestock do so without the use of artificial chemicals and additives. It is intended to be the most environmentally friendly farming process, as well as resulting in less manmade chemicals in the diet of the end user.  This natural way of growing crops and livestock results in more fertile soil, which in turn creates a better quality of yield of crops in the long run.

Organic animal feed is grown without any herbicides or pesticides, and without artificial fertilizers which can be detrimental to soil quality in the long run.

Usually animals reared organically will be “free-range”, meaning they have space to act naturally and live their lives in comfort, as opposed to being shut in a barn. This is said to have a positive effect on the quality of meat produced. With organic farming, emphasis is usually put on quality rather than quantity.

Due to the emphasis on soil quality and lack of additives, organic food will often taste better than its mass produced alternative.  A blind taste test will often reveal this (it’s also a fun test to try if you’re bored one evening!).

European law disallows the use of genetically modified organisms in organic products, meaning all EU sourced organic foodstuffs must be free from genetic modification. When crops and livestock are genetically modified, genes from other species are spliced into the host to make them more resistant to disease, larger, etc. This raises concerns in whether the consumption of something genetically modified is 100% safe, and whether it is morally corrects to modify the genes of an organism.

Scientific studies have proven that animals fed with organically produced food have improved general health, stronger growth, better reproductive systems and increased disease resistance. This makes the benefits of consuming organic food extremely convincing!

To summarise, organic food is better for the environment, better for the wellbeing of livestock, and better for those who consume it. As well as being healthier for us, it’s also tastier! The only downside is the cost, which is usually more than mass produced alternatives. Despite this, the pros far outweigh the cons, and if you haven’t already you should at least try making the switch to organic produce to see if you can notice the difference. Most who try organic meat for the first time do so for moral reasons, but the improved taste is also a massive bonus!

Leeds Seventeen, a popular Yorkshire based restaurant, focuses on providing customers with the highest quality organic and local sourced food. They are an award winning restaurant and leeds wedding venue.
